The red rooster was the first Pelagia book ive read. it started off OK, I enjoyed the descriptions of all the strange groups on the ship and the inevitable murder, and the subsequent quests by various characters to determine the nature of the killer, but I thought it descended into a strange sort of mysticism/5.

The book starts promising but gets more and more improbable, and abstruse. In addition there are several historical mistakes. E.g. there is mention of a Russian sect that in reality were the zars secret police agents and lived like years before they were placed in the book /5.
